Christmas Holiday Presents for your Dog
The Christmas or Hanukah season is the time of year for the
giving of gifts to your family and friends. This of course
includes your beloved pets, especially man's best friend the
ever faithful dog. But what should you get your dog for the Christmas
Holidays? Here are some handy suggestions for you and your
pet for this gift-giving season.
How about getting him or her their own special dog bed for
those cold winter nights? A dog bed will lift your friend
off of the cold floor and away from drafts and give it its
own special place to lay its head. This can even help you if
your dog has a thing about sleeping in your bed. Giving the
dog its own bed can help with its training so that it has a
place to go when you tell it to get down off of your bed.
Another great holiday gift is a special treat. All dogs have
their own special treats that they love. Getting your dog
that giant package of liver snacks or jerky twists or a new
ball will put a happy grin on its adorable face.
You can also give it a treat that is also a chew toy, like
rawhide bones or pig's ears. These handy treats help with
teething and give the pup something else to gnaw on other
than your kitchen table leg.
Pet stores here in the United States even sell various sizes
of doggie Christmas stockings filled with doggie toys and
treats, so your pet can join in the Christmas stocking fun
if that tradition is part of your holiday celebration. Or
you could get your dog new dog dishes for its food and water
or even a new collar.
Some people like to dress up their dogs for Christmas and
there are plenty of outfits designed for dogs from which to
choose. Your pooch could be a jolly Santa or a cute elf.
It's all up to you.
But the best gift that you can give you dog is to spend time
with it. Dogs are man's best friend and prefer to be with
their masters. So some special "one on one time" with their
owner is the best gift that you can give your dog.
There are many good ideas of things that you can give your
dog for Christmas, but remember to make it something that
the dog would like, not what you would like. There are
plenty of gifts out there for your dog and you can now even
take your dog with you to some stores and let it pick out
its own gift.
So there is need to leave your dog out of the Holiday
Festivities. Happy Holidays!

funny! I mentioned sending some pics and I think they may send you

Classic Tie On Bandanas come in many traditional and not so traditional styles. These are handmade with Love.
These Bandanas were inspired by a sweetie Golden Retriever, Maddie Anne. Maddie and her older brother, Kramer, came from the Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (GRRR)(http://www.goldenrescue.com.) Maddie was a "Golden Angel" with Cerebellar Hypoplasia a neurological disorder that affected her fine motor skills.
Unrelated to her neurological condition Maddie Anne passed away unexpectedly in Jan. 2007, just shy of her 5th Birthday. Shortly after her death, Kramer came home from a grooming appointment with a bright new bandana, which made us remember how beautiful Maddie looked with her long blonde hair offset by a bandana of her own. We also recalled how Kramer and Maddie played hard and neither of their bandanas would last very long.
In an effort to cheer Kramer up (and to keep us busy) after Maddie went to the Rainbow Bridge, we started to make Kramer a new bandana for each day he went to Doggie Day Camp. We received so many compliments on his bandanas and requests for where we were getting them, that we decided that a fitting tribute to Maddie would be to offer an assortment of bandanas for dogs everywhere. It is our mission that a percentage of all our profits will be donated to the GRRR Golden Angel program in Maddie's name**.
**Through Sept 2008, Donations have totaled $950.00.

My dogs have not worn ID tags for years. We would
move and need new ones, or I'd get tired of taking them off for agility
or we would get tired of the jingling or I couldn't really find ones
I liked. Then I saw these on the Pampered Paw website...
Naturally, they all had to have one and they arrived
yesterday. They have names and phone numbers engraved on the back.
The black/white one is Zodiac's, purple is Legend, and green is Oreo.
I would have posted pictures of them wearing them but then they are
harder to see up close, especially with long haired dogs. They also
come in a few more colors if anyone wants one for their own dog.
Look at these cutie pies! Click on the picture to

Christmas Safety Tips for Curious Dogs
'Tis the Season!
by Krista Mifflin
Chocolate and candy canes, trees and garlands, Christmas represents
the joy of giving and peace and love. Unfortunately for some, Christmas
also represents emergency veterinarian visits for obstructed bowels
after the tinsel on the tree mysteriously disappears, chocolate poisoning
from careless children leaving their treats out, and turkey bones
from the garbage that must be removed from an intestine.
We want your entire family to have the safest, happiest Christmas
season possible. With the help of the folks over at the Dog Park,
we present to you, a collection of Christmas safety tips. May your
season be full of cheer!
Don't give Christmas puppies or kittens as a surprise gift! ~ 'Nette
If you're getting a pet for Christmas, and it's an agreed upon addition
to the family, wait until the home is more quiet to bring the little
one in - the normal busy-ness of Christmas will be too overwhelming
for your new friend! If you need something under the tree, buy the
leash, collar, a training book, make a gift certificate for the pet
of choice, etc. But to echo - DON'T SURPRISE SOMEONE WITH A PET FOR
CHRISTMAS! ~ Stealthgirl
Pets as presents?
Poinsettias are deadly for cats. Tinsel/streamers are deadly for
animals that will eat it (dogs and cats - it'll get tangled in their
intestines). Chocolate is deadly. And too much rich holiday food as
"treats" will likely make for many days of deadly gas and
nasty diarrhea.. Also avoid those pressed rawhide bones that look
like candy canes and stuff - it generally leads to ... "loose
stool" - not very christmassy! ~ Stealthgirl
Remember to water the tree regularly, so that the dogs don't! ~
MadSnorker
Don't forget to spend quality time with the fur-family - sometimes
we get so caught up in the activities and family feuds, we don't take
time for long walks and play sessions with our buddies - which are
an excellent de-stressor :-) ~ Stealthgirl
Keep electrical cords away from curious puppies and kitties. One
chomp is all it'll take! ~ Jen
I don't use single-strand tinsel on my tree for fear that they will
eat it and have it twist in their intestines or stomach. ~ Jen
Decorate the lower branches with things that don't mind being broken,
swallowed or pawed. ~ 'Nette
Be cautious of piling Christmas prezzies under the tree and allowing
unlimited access (Heidi already pulled one out of my brother's suitcase
this morning. Fortunately I could hear her pawing at the box, and
no damage was done). (Hmmm, I wonder what is in it?!?!) ~ 'Nette
If you have a chewer, coat new wires (like the ones for the christmas
tree lights) in bitter apple, or another chew deterrent. ~ Stealthgirl
If you're having guests over, try to leave a room available as a
"quiet room" for the pets to escape to, especially if there
are a lot of boisterous children. ~ Stealthgirl
One thing I did see recently on a tv show - think it might have
been Stanley Coren's, he recommended putting an exercise pen around
the tree as a measure to keep really determined dogs out and the tree
and goodies in. ~ ArtFreaky
Anchor your christmas tree to the ceiling or wall behind it. The
tree was up all of five minutes before Raider decided the garland
was fun to grab and run with. ~ Krista
I'm going to preface this with a confession. I've received three
puppies as gifts ... one for Christmas, and two were birthday presents,
not all in the same year.
If you are now sitting there wondering where I get off discouraging
this practice when I've been the happy recipient of such gifts, three
times over, ... please let me assure you, it's all in the delivery
and planning. Since I picked out my three dogs (and every dog that
has ever come into my home), it should be quite obvious that I was
a fully active participant for these particular gift selections. The
decision to become responsible for three lives was my own, the selection
of breeds (or non-breeds, as the case may be) was something I spent
months considering beforehand. The "gift" part was the purchase
price, and the timing of their arrival (a little off in two cases).
I didn't get to unwrap a cute, be-ribboned box under the Christmas
tree with suspicious air holes poked through the lid. And there was
no joyous surprise from opening a pretty package containing a puppy
half dead from lack of oxygen, or soggy with urine, from being shut
in a box for far too long. Now wouldn't that put a damper on things?
I'll bet the pup would have felt damper too.
Do it the Right Way
If you are dead set on getting that special someone a puppy for Christmas,
be absolutely sure that someone wants the responsibilities and commitment
involved and can handle the expenses of having a dog. Anything less
than that is both unfair and a grave disservice to both the puppy
and the person.
It's Okay to Surprise Somebody When ...
You are the parent, and until then, you were the reason your children
didn't have a dog yet. However, if you are the parent, and the puppy
is for a child, I hope you're prepared for taking over the responsibilities
yourself. Children very rarely handle things like cleaning up, training,
and feeding until they are much older. These things will most likely
end up being your job, along with all bills.
It's just a very bad idea to actually surprise somebody with something
that will need their constant attention, cash and training for the
next ten to fifteen years or more. It would be like me showing up
on your doorstep with a pretty parcel : "Look at what I bought
you! A baby! Isn't he cute? You'll make a terrific mother, and I've
got to go now ... bye!"
Plan With Your Person
This is always the best way. Your gift recipient gets all the joy
of choosing their own companion, and you get to share their joy (and
pay for it). Not everyone's idea of the perfect dog is the same, and
nobody can pick friends better than the person who keeps the friends
(I'm not sure that came out quite right, but you get the idea). A
dog is a lifestyle decision, and best left to the person living that
life.
Have to Wrap SOMETHING?
If you're battling that urge to have at least something wrapped up
that they can open, then wrap up with these ideas:
collar and leash gift set
fancy food and water dishes
a gift certificate for one cute puppy (breed left to the receiver's

a cute stuffed toy puppy, with a note around his neck: "I'm not
a real dog, but there's one waiting for you!"
If that special someone is yourself, by all means, continue on ...
just know that planning and thinking it over thoroughly is very important,
and that wrapping the pup up to place under the tree is a bad idea.
How to Choose Healthy Christmas Gifts for Pets
By eHow Holidays & Celebrations Editor
When shopping for Christmas gifts for your four-legged family members,
avoid stuffing their stockings with treats or chew toys that may trigger
allergies or lead to weight problems. Instead, consider these gift
options for your dog or cat that will ensure they'll have a happy
and healthy new year.
Step1
Get scratching posts and a kitty condo or tree that will give your
cat multiple opportunities for rest, play and exercise. Look for a
version with platforms at different heights to encourage climbing
and an enclosed nook for private naps.
Step2
Pamper your pet with a luxury bed where they can indulge in their
many naps on Christmas day and throughout the year. From cute tents
to indulgent chaise lounges, furniture comes with a variety of covers
from plush velvet to faux chinchilla.
Step3
Let your little dog get plenty of fresh air and experience the world
with you by buying him a designer carrier. Ensure his safety with
a version that features a leash hook and mesh panels for ventilation.
Step4
Keep dogs extra warm this Christmas with jackets, sweaters and coats.
The cozy clothing can also make a fashion statement with rhinestone
motifs, fun fabrics and the logos of your favorite sports teams.
Step5
Consider gifts with health benefits like elevated food and water
platforms that may aid the digestion of larger dogs and ionic pet
brushes that may beautify your pet's coat and stimulate circulation.
Consult your veterinarian about healthy flea treatments and other
hygienic stocking stuffers like toothbrushes and claw trimmers.
Step6
Help elderly pets walk into cars or reach higher spots with carpeted
steps or safety ramps. Units are stackable for additional height and
carpeted for comfort. Check the weight ratings to ensure they'll safely
support your pet.
Christmas is coming! Hey Santa...
don’t forget the Christmas dog gifts!
And I’m not just talking about putting
a gift under the tree or filling a stocking
with tasty dog treats that you’ll present
to Fido on Christmas day. I mean... of course
you’ll still do that!
But when Christmas time rolls around again
and we start gearing up for the holiday festivities...
remember to include your family dog in the
events that lead up to the big day.
As the big holiday approaches, our dogs can
usually sense that something’s up. Something
special. Why not include your special pooch
in the holiday fun with some Christmas dog
gifts?
And as we prepare for the holiday season our
homes begin to fill with so many yummy smells
from all of the holiday cooking and baking...
just this alone is enough to send your dog’s
nose into overdrive!
Our dogs excitedly watch us dig out our special
Christmas outfits... you know the ones I’m
talking about... those brightly colored red
and green Christmas sweaters, holiday aprons,
festive jewelry and Santa hats!
What dog can resist getting in the middle
of all those wonderful holiday decorations
that we drag out from our basements, attics
and garages? Wondering where the Christmas
dog gifts are.
And you may easily get so busy preparing for
the upcoming events... decorating... shopping...
cooking... wrapping presents... that you don't
even notice that your loyal canine friend
is feeling completely left out.
Our dog's don't understand why they're not
part of all the wonderful holiday hub-bub.
Or why we're not paying our usual attention
to them.
And before you know it Fido is on edge and
singing the lonely Christmas Dog Blues...
oh what's a doggie to do!
Well, here are a few great Christmas dog gifts
that will help you make your pooch feel like
he’s part of the holiday festivities
and not the family outcast.
Have Plenty Of Special Dog Treats On Hand
For Your Pooch
If you're like me, you do a lot of cooking
during the holiday season... cookies one day...
pies the next... and so on... your dog probably
gets pretty worked up smelling all those tasty
goodies.
Can you really blame him? How many times do
you have to chase your human family members
out of the kitchen?
Well, here's an opportunity to bring out some
Christmas dog gifts that your pooch is sure
to love.
This is what I do now – I buy special
dog treats as Christmas dog gifts for my dog
Max and use them as rewards for good behavior.
When he starts getting all worked up I send
him to his bed and once he calms down I'll
give him some special tasty dog treats as
one of his Christmas dog gifts.
This type of positive reinforcement works
very well for Max and even this little bit
of attention goes a long way.
Not All Christmas Dog Gifts Have To Be Things
You Buy
Christmas dog gifts can also be things you
do. You know... peace on earth good will toward
dogs!
My dog can’t wait to get his nose into
all the holiday decorations that we drag down
from our attic. All those new and different
smells!
He gets so excited that he can't resist jumping
right into the middle of things.
Unfortunately, at the height of his curiosity
we usually have to snatch him away and close
him in another room to keep him out of trouble.
Here's something I tried a few years back
and it worked like a charm. First I emptied
one of the decoration boxes. Next I put the
empty box in the other room with my dog.
I left it there for him to sniff. And he got
right on it... I thought his nose would fall
off! But it seemed to satisfy his curiosity
and he quickly calmed down.
Who would have thought that an empty box could
be used as one of his Christmas dog gifts?
A few minutes later he was calm enough to
rejoin us in the living room... which is just
what he wanted most.
Christmas dog gifts like this don't cost a
penny but are priceless to your family pooch.
Too Busy To Give Your Pooch The Attention
He's Used To Getting?
As we get more and more consumed with holiday
preparations, our dogs tend to get short changed
in the attention department.
Not understanding why... even the most loved
and well adjusted family dog can start feeling
rejected.
Finding ways to give your beloved family pooch
the attention he needs is another way you
can think about Christmas dog gifts.
I stumbled on this one a while back quite
by accident... while shopping for some new
tree trimmings I came across a pair of dog
antlers.
You know... those silly things you put on
your dog’s head to make him look like
one of Santa’s reindeer.
Max looked adorable (and very funny) parading
around the house in his new Christmas costume.
We laughed and giggled every time he walked
into the room. Many times we stopped what
we were working on just to have another look
and giggle.
We couldn’t resist giving him a quick
rub or pat on the head. Our dog certainly
got much more attention when he was wearing
those antlers. And he just ate it up!
I highly recommend getting your canine pal
a spirited holiday costume as one of his Christmas
dog gifts.
It'll help take some of the seriousness out
of your holiday preparations and your dog
won’t be singing the lonely Christmas
Dog Blues.
So remember... Christmas Dog Gifts aren’t
just for Christmas day! You and your dog can
share and enjoy them the whole holiday season.
Christmas Dog Gifts for All Dog Breeds
Christmas is for kids, some say.
I do not agree, Christmas is for everyone.
Young and old, black and white, for the poor
and the rich. Christmas is a time to thank
God for the blessings and pain because thats
what life is all about.
Most people like to celebrate Christmas with
their families or friends. Happy are they
who can do so, and I believe most people can.
But not everybody are that lucky. And even
those who have a family or group of friends
to be with have a number one friend i have
not mentioned yet, their dog. Mens best friend.
Without all the different dog breeds on earth
a lot of people would have been much more
lonely.
At Christmas we give gift to our friends,
and so we also should do to our dog friends.
Many of us have been looking for
Christmas Dog Gifts . There are a lot of dog
gifts to choose, but to find the right one
exactly for Christmas can be harder.
Parents love to come home with a gift for
their dog any time of the year, especially
at Christmas. Among the most popular dog gifts
are chew toys, dog collars and treats, dog
Clothes, puppy Supplies. The list is long.
Dog toys are an important part of any dog’s
life. Toys provide physical exercise, mental
stimulation and a way to bond with owners.
Are you looking for the right type of toy
for your dog, from tough Kong toys to dog
toys for miniature dog breeds, the selection
are huge. Just to mention chew toys, rope
toys, and toys made of latex, rubber, plush
and more!

your dog with shelter from the elements, whether

or to themselves, when talking to the dog,
as mummy or daddy. Giving the owner of a dog
a Christmas gift to their dog will be a great
success. Just try it
Dogs are mans best friend so
they say, and as any doggy family owner will
tell you, they really do become part of the
family. This is probably why we can never
leave the family pets out of the party at
Christmas time. There are many presents on
the market for dogs from Christmas stockings,
to Christmas bones, and glitter collars.
Special Christmas Presents For Your Dog
So this Christmas choose your pets special
gift this Christmas with care and thought.
There are more presents for the rest of the
family that are pet related like keyfobs with
your best friends photo on it, even business
card holders. I even saw a chopping board
with a lovely picture of a loved pet. How
sweet is that? For a stocking filler for the
kids what about a pencil holder again with
the picture of their pet on it. That will
make the little darlings tidy there desk up.
A word of caution too. Don't leave your pet
dressed up in Christmas stuff unattended.
Its great to see, but they can get caught
in bushes, get too hot and cause distress
to your animal.
Chocolate and candy canes, trees and garlands,
Christmas represents the joy of giving and
peace and love. Unfortunately for some, Christmas
also represents emergency veterinarian visits
for obstructed bowels after the tinsel on
the tree mysteriously disappears, chocolate
poisoning from careless children leaving their
treats out, and turkey bones from the garbage
that must be removed from an intestine. I
know it sounds bad news, but being safe will
leave you to Have the safest and happiest
Christmas season possible.

Friends

People aren't the only creatures who crave
surprises during the holidays. Although they
don't understand the significance of the season,
pets like opening packages, too.
Favorite gifts this holiday season include
giant cookie bones, pet strollers, pet beds,
personalized pet tags, luxury gift baskets
filled with holiday treats and plush squeaky
toys.
If you know a pet who wants to star in his
or her own holiday photo session, consider
having them don doggy duds or cat coats with
rhinestones or light-up accessories. Simple
Christmas T-shirts are great for more low-key
pets.
No matter where you purchase it, keep the
pet and their safety in mind when picking
out or receiving a gift. Most pet products
are labeled for the size and age of the dog
or cat. Usually a Saint Bernard can't safely
play with the same toy as a Chihuahua. Meanwhile,
a young pup probably prefers a chew toy or
two versus an elderly pet, who might appreciate
a soft new bed.
No matter what gift your favorite animal receives,
be sure to remove any packaging or ribbons
before you let your dog or cat play with it
or sleep on it. Also check for any small parts
that might fall off and be swallowed. And
finally, choose only healthy treats and be
sure they are fed in moderation. If in doubt,
a veterinarian will be able to help you find
out which treats are best for your pets health.
After you've purchased a gift for that favorite
pet, why not get something for his or her
owner? Dog breed car and truck floor mats,
outdoor floor mats, t-shirts and sweatshirts
are great gifts for folks who are looking
forward to a year's worth of fun with a cuddly
canine. Pampered Paw Gifts features dog breed
car and truck floor mats, outdoor floor mats,
T-shirts and sweatshirts that capture the
essence of all breeds, from the Afghan hound
to the Yorkshire terrier.
If you or someone you know would like to adopt
a fluffy friend before or after Christmas,
most PetSmart stores have a working relationship
with local humane societies and sponsor pet
adoptions.
Just because you think a pet would be a perfect
gift doesn't mean the person on the receiving
end will agree. It's best to ask first. That
way there is a better chance that the pet
will be well cared for and loved this holiday
season and many seasons to come.
Remember that bringing a pet home during the
hectic week before Christmas - or on Christmas
day - adds to the animal's usual adjustment
problems. In fact, many reputable breeders
and shelters will not allow puppies or kittens
to go to a new home for Christmas.
If the entire household is looking forward
to a new pet, snap a picture of the newest
member of the family and wait a few days to
bring him home. After all, what better way
to extend the magic of the holiday season?
Make sure pets get a gift from Santa
Claws
Your lengthy holiday gift checklist is just
about complete: Mom, Dad, brother, Great Aunt
and cousins.
That takes care of the two-legged loved ones,
but what about Fido and Whiskers?
Fear not, animal lovers. The possibilities
for pet holiday gifts abound and are as nearby
as your computer, Pampered Paw Gifts—
which happens to feature a holiday gift section
