International Dog Biscuits from Beggar's Banquet

Merry is just not as much of a world traveler as she'd like to be.

She's heard about Paris, of course, and fabulous Rome... misty and mysterious Scotland, too. She's heard good things about them. She knows they have food. She would like to have some of it.

Sometimes, in fact, she sits right in front of me, plaintive face and puppy dog eyes in full tilt... waiting to be taken to one of these places. She's sure the food is better there. She's sure I'm the reason she hasn't visited yet.

Sigh. Being mommy to a diva pug has its trials.

Luckily, I have something with which to appease the princess until I can afford to fly her to hither and yon to appease that puggy appetite of hers: biscuits from Beggar's Banquet.

The company sent in its entire International Flavors collection and the princess and I had great, international fun trying them out.

The collection comes in four flavors: Italian Biscotti (cut in star, moon and sun shapes), Scottish Scones (cut to look like real British Isles scones, in wedges) French Croissants (actually turned to look like croissants) and New England Pinwheeels, which look much like a thick cracker.

But it's the details you all want now, yes? What's inside? I've got the scoop:

Italian Biscotti is made incredibly simply - with just whole wheat flour, parmesan cheese, spring water and veggie oil. The Scottish Scones, on the other hand, are heartier with whole wheat flour, rolled oats, crunchy peanut butter, spring water and veggie oil. The New England pinwhelles are actually similar - whole wheat flour, crunchy peanut butter, oil and water... but a kiss of honey added to it. And finally the French Croissants have a little surprise inside: carob!

We loved all the unique shapes. And the boxes - well, how cute are they? We loved the angled way they all fit together. So smart (and space-saving in your kitchen).

You'll want to make sure you refrigerate your biscuits if you plan to have them around for more than a month. Our pinwheels went a little green around the edges within 6 weeks - that's not necessarily a bad thing, since you don't want your dog's treats to be overloaded with preservatives, but it is something you should watch out for. And as fabulous as these treats are, we don't recommend them for pups too much smaller than Merry, because the treats are very hard-baked. It took the princess long minutes to crack open one of the treats for nibbling, and that also means it's tough to snap the treats in half for smaller pups. Merry's size and up, though, should love these things! (Do you see the buggy eyes in the last photo?)

We loved the international concept and the simple ingredient lists - as well as the gorgeous packaging. The princess enjoyed her whirlwind trip around the world!
